Neighbors in the vicinity of Stuart Drive and East Street had an unexpected visitor Sunday morning when a black bear strolled through several backyards. Residents said it checked bird feeders for food and made its way back into the woods. The incident was reported to police but the bear was gone by the time officers arrived.

Hart Street will be closed from the intersection of West Street to the intersection of Holly Hill Drive beginning July 14 due to construction in the area. The road will be closed for approximately five weeks, according to the Southington Police Department. Motorists are encouraged to use Mill Street and Curtis Street as alternate routes.

The Southington Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints on Friday evening, May 23, as part of the ongoing effort of the departments DWI enforcement and education program.
These checkpoints will conducted primarily on Queen Street, Meriden-Waterbury Road and West Street.

Southington Police Department announced May 15 three arrest warrants have been executed by the Narcotics Enforcement Team.

On May 7, the Southington Police Narcotic Enforcement Team arrested Edward Serrano age 28, of Waterbury, and Bajrame Iljazi, age 31, formally of 255 Hitchcock Road, Southington for possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, operating a drug factory, paraphernalia in a drug factory, and money laundering. Iljazi was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Southington police made several arrests April 30 in connection with fire bombings that occurred March 10. Police said that between 10 p.m.

Southington police arrested Christopher Hauschild, 25, of 26 Darling St., Southington, in connection with an incident that occurred May 1 on Southington High School property. The school was placed in temporary, precautionary code lock down until police apprehended the suspect at his home after he fled school property.
